Your Marketing Plan

To assist you in planning your marketing campaign I suggest the following. Each item has a checkmark so you can mark it when you have finished the step.

Day one. Starting from the inside out;

• What is "Inside Out" Marketing?

  To put it simply, it is starting your marketing campaign from the core of
  your business.

  Do you have a written marketing plan?

  Is your business prepared for a great volume of questions and/or orders from
  your website?

  Do you have a system in place to automatically sort your incoming email,
  separating the Spam from the valid emails?

   A clearly written marketing strategy offers six immediate benefits:

  1)       Because written plans display their strengths and weaknesses
  more readily,
  they are of great help in formulating and polishing a marketing
  strategy.

  2)       Written plans are not as easily forgotten. If deviation from the
  original plan occurs,
  it is likely to be due to a deliberate choice.

  3)       Written plans are easier to communicate to others and are less
  likely to be misunderstood.

  4)       Written plans allocate responsibilities and provide for an
  evaluation of results.

  5)       Written plans help in seeking financing. They indicate to lenders
  that your business is
  taking a serious approach.

  6)       Written plans give management a clear understanding of the
  components of the marketing strategy and the processes involved
  in obtaining the goals.

Is your business prepared for the copious amounts of email that a successful
marketing campaign will generate? 

• We suggest that you:

1)       Have multiple email addresses. This will help in your efforts to
separate the Spam from the requests for assistance and orders.
Your web host should be able to supply you with either a "catch all"
email account where anything@your-domain will reach you or get
separate POP mailboxes.

2)       Once you have the above in place, use your email program’s
"Rules" to direct the incoming emails.
For those of you that are not familiar with this option,
you can set your email program to deal with incoming emails
depending on several factors.

If you are using Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, go to your "Tools"
menu, then to the "Wizard" and you can specify a number of different options.

Let us say that you have 3 email addresses. The first is for orders from your
website. Using the wizard direct your email program to "Check emails when they
arrive" " then " specify the emails "Sent to your "Orders" address " then " have
your email program either "move" or "move a copy" to a previously made
"order folder".

If you specify, "Move a copy", you will have a duplicate as a back up in case of accidental deletion.

The same thing applies to Spam. If you are active on-line you undoubtedly  receive   numerous unwanted emails or "Spam".  Having your "rules wizard" move these emails to a "Spam" folder.

If you subscribe to numerous ezines and/or mailing lists then having a "Catch All" email account works best. When you sign up for an ezine you can use a "coded" email address and automatically direct the responses.

For instance let us take this opt in email list.  If I were to subscribe to it I would use marketers-edge-sub@DotCom-Productions.com as my email address.
I would then prepare a new folder in my email program for incoming messages and have the messages directed to it.

Not only does this organize your incoming emails and keep your inbox clutter free, but also it allows you to see if any of your subscription email addresses are being sold.  

To summarize,

Prepare a marketing plan.

Set up a number of different POP email accounts, or use a catchall system.

Use your email rules to keep your inbox clutter free.

Set up  an autoresponder that will reply to any of your "official" email addresses.

Day Two.  Optimize your website for the major search engines.

Since the main search  engines are the source of a lot of traffic, it is important that your pages use every method of conforming to their listing requirements.

Use WebPosition to do a primary optimization and review Chapter # 7 for coding "tricks"

Day Three.  Submit to portal websites.

"Link Relevance" is a major factor in getting good listings on the major search engines. The more links you have pointing to your site on other sites, the better your ranking.

• Submit your website to portal  websites.
  Since it is important that before you submit to the major search engines you have at least one link on an outside website

Day Four.  Submit your site to the major search engines.

Special note: Do NOT use an automated submitter!
Do each submission manually.
Do NOT submit more than one page per day.

Before you start have note pad open and have the following ready:

• The title of your site
• The description of your site
• Your URL
• Your email address
• Your contact information.

Some of the major search engines require this information, some don't. Having a copy of your information ready to copy and paste will shorten your posting time considerably.

Day Five.  Use the Aesop Award Submitter

Day Six. Web Rings.

Link to other web sites like yours and...

• Increase traffic to your site!
• Use a simple navigation bar to link to other sites.
• Find concentrations of sites quickly and easily.
• Create a Ring and develop an online community.
