Coding "Secrets"
In this chapter we get into the factors that
affect your search engine rankings.
This deals with the regular pages on your website.
The "secrets" are not really secrets but
they deserve close attention. Some of the techniques are little
known.
The primary "Secret" is to include
"Meta Tags".
Most of the major search engines use these tags to
index a website's pages.
Below are the primary Meta tags to include in all your pages.
They are taken from my website's tags and reflect my primary keyword
phrase.
You would, of course, substitute your own keyword
phrases for mine, but for now let's work with these.
<title>Professional Website Management
for your business</title>
<meta name="keywords" content="websites,
management, designs, maintenance, marketing, productions, help,
support, webmasters">
<meta name="description" content="Professional
Website Management services. We cover all aspects of website
management, design, marketing, and maintenance. Help for webmasters.
One on One Training.">
<meta name="robots" content="index,
follow">
WebMaster Tip:
Use plurals whenever possible. Use your
primary keyword in your 'Title" tag and use all your keywords
in the other tags. For best results limit your
keywords to a maximum of 6.
Do NOT repeat a keyword more than 3 times in each tag. Once works.
Some search engines consider more than 3 repetitions of your keywords
"Spam" and could ban your listings.
When people search using your keywords, the
keywords in the "keywords" meta tag combine into:
- website management
- website designs
- website maintenance
- website productions
- marketing
- website marketing
And more. When you think of a keyword phrase to
use, break that phrase up into its components then use the
components only once in your tags.
Another secret is to have
the image file names include your keywords.
In the case of my
DotCom-Productions logo below, the name of the file is:
"DotCom-Productions-for-all-your-website-management-needs.gif"

Still another secret is to use the "Alt
Tag" to display your keywords.
Hover your cursor over my logo above to see the
words:
"DotCom-Productions for all your website
management needs. We design, market, and maintain productive
websites. How to Tips for budding and experienced webmasters."
Use text links on all your pages. (The search
engines love them).
On my main website I include text links to each of
the main pages at the bottom of each page.
