Hi folks. Please help
me find a lost friend.
Due to circumstances I have lost
contact with a person that I hold very dear in my heart and would love
to re-establish communications with her.
(My address book was lost in a move). |
| A plea and a challenge.
|
The
Small World Hypothesis
says any one person can be found in a chain of 6 contacts. |
|

|
My plea.
All I have is her married and
maiden names and a photo.
The last time I talked to her she was living in Pickering Ont. (1994) and was
displaying her woodworking crafts at local flea markets.
Her maiden name was Regina
Pozniac (Reggie).
When I saw her in 1994 she was married to Dwight Collins who was in the process
of taking a networking course.

http://smallworld.columbia.edu/ people are
posing a challenge to test the Small World Hypothesis, the idea that any two
people chosen at random from the world's population can be connected to each
other through a short chain of friends: person A can get a message to person B
by sending it to a friend, who then sends it to another friend, who then sends
it to another friend, and so on, until it reaches B. You may have heard of this
idea being referred to by the phrase "Six Degrees of Separation" but the "six"
is only a rough estimate. It is not known what the average number of
connections required to link any two people is or even whether it is always
possible to do so. Over the last 30 years and more, a number of experiments
have tested the Small World Hypothesis but none of them have been conducted at
the world scale and none of them have been conclusive. This experiment aims to
authoritatively test the Small World Hypothesis using email to send messages,
involving potentially hundreds of thousands of people from all around the world.
