Page 2 in the install. Accept the defaults and continue.
Your first error.
Open your FTP program and go to your-store.com/includes/ and set the
permissions at 777 or read write and execute all on the FOLDERS.
Do the same for admin/includes/
Note: In these 2 cases you are changing the permissions on the
folders. Normally if a path shows a file name then you are to change
the file's permission.
In this case, the program generates the 2 configure.php files and
although it is indicating that they need to be made writeable, there are
no configure.php files. There are 2 configure_dist.php files but these
are not the cause of the problem.
In most ftp programs, right clicking on the file will bring up a menu.
The command you want will be either, Change file Permissions or CHMOD,
depending on your ftp program.
Usually you can select and change multiple files in a folder in one
command.
More errors on the same page. Change the permissions
on all these files and folders to 777.
You will need to change them back to the proper settings later.
I will give you the settings when you are done with the install.
All done? Press "check Again"
Back to the step 2 page completion again. This time everything is
green.
Press
continue
Here we are on step 3. Now is the time to enter your
Database server, your login, password and the name of the database.
If you are on a shared server do not enable persistent connections, and use
the Database, not the Files option in the Session Storage.
Before pressing continue, log in to your PHP MyAdmin and create your
database.
There is no need to enter anything in it. A blank database is sufficient.
Once you have made the database click on continue in step 3 above.
If you have done everything in step 3 right you will get a "Success"
screen.
Press continue above to import your database.
Step 5 needs you to enter the web address then the root directory's
path, cookie path and yes or no to enable SSL connections.
This screen appears already filled in for you. Accept the defaults.
Do not enable SSL unless you have a secure certificate installed or your
host offers a shared certificate.
If you do so you will run into problems accessing the Admin.
Step 6 is nowhere to be found. The install goes to step 7 after
step 5.
Accept the defaults.
Step 8 is setting up the admin access. Enter First, Last names,
admin email address and password. Continue.
This brings you to the last screen. It will list your user name
and password.
When you go to to the admin login link, you will see a warning at
the top to tell you to change the permissions on your /admin/includes/configure.php.
Notice you are NOT told to do the same thing to /includes/configure.php
and you have to make that secure as well. This warning has
disappeared.
Now you have to go back in using ftp and reconfigure the permissions
so the site is secure.
Change configure.php in includes/ and in admin/includes to 444
However, you will probably not be able to do this without an additional
step. When I try to do this I get the following error. The only way I have found to fix this problem is to download the
configure.php file in ASCII mode, delete the configure.php file on the
server and upload the copy you just downloaded.
When this is done the CHMOD confirmation is correct.
