The "H" is never silent. When building your website there are times to use the tags, The "H" tags are; H1 H2 H3 H4 H5 H6 "H" tags or heading tags, tell the search engines the importance of the text enclosed in their brackets, which are normally keywords used in page headings.
If your site was promoting widgets the first "H" tag would enclose the word widgets as in Widgets If you wanted to bring the next important keyword into focus it would be enclosed in a H2 Tag. Blue Widgets If there were further subdivisions in the product's granularity it could be "Select from" Perforated Solid 
In the code the tags would read;
Widgets - Red and Blue - Perforated or Solid Description tag < Buy Widgets - Red and Blue - Perforated or Solid - Starting at $1.99> Keywords tag This gives the following logical progressions: Widgets --> Widget Colors --> Blue Widgets -->Perforated or Solid.
Widgets --> Widget Colors --> Red Widgets -->Perforated or Solid.
As we progress through the wide meaning of the word widget, we are funneled down through progressively longer tailed pages, each with their own (more relevant) description).
